Meet Amazing Grace (2 of 5)
Our Beliefs
Amazing Grace Lutheran Church is a Christian community, which means we believe:
- In a Trinitarian God, who is known to us as Father (creator), Son, (Savior) and Holy Spirit (the living presence of God with us, sustaining us and directing us).
- We believe in Jesus as God’s Son, God with us who shared fully in our humanity, all of our human experiences, including death; and yet at the same time was fully divine, since only a divine Savior could free us from sin and restore our relationship with God (Philippians 2:1-11)
- We profess the faith spelled out in both the Apostle’s and Nicene Creeds as the foundation of Christian belief.
- We believe that the scriptures are the Word of God, not in the sense that they were dictated by God and recorded by human scribes, but in the sense that the Holy Spirit helps us to hear God speak through them in a way that is relevant to our present-day human struggles.
- We believe that the gospel (good news) is summed up as the promise that we are saved, redeemed through God’s love and grace alone, and that this promise must be received through our faith (trust) in God’s promise. We can do nothing to earn this gift of salvation, it can only be received through our faith (trust) in God’s promise as a gift (See Romans 3:21-28; Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8-9).
- We believe that as humans we are flawed, but we are also forgiven if we seek it. In a continually changing world, the one enduring thing is God and God’s love for us. Church isn’t a place for perfect people, it is a place for broken sinners who want to be better.
- We believe that our job as disciples is to be Jesus in the world loving our neighbors, all of our neighbors.
